If you have come across this question and it has made you wonder, you can breathe easily. Shopify is most certainly not a scam. It’s a great tech platform that has made many people wealthy. So where does this question come from?

The fact is, the world is full of people who love to blame others for their failures. All over the world, you can find people labeling all kinds of great services and tools as a scam. 

In the Ecommerce world, Amazon FBA and WooCommerce get the same treatment. So do Ecommerce trainers and consultants, app developers and service providers.

If you believe the naysayers, then the world is full of greedy, shady business owners who are simply out to take your money and give you little or nothing in return. And while there certainly are some scammers out there, to tar quality service providers with the same brush is nonsensical.

Why Shopify Store Owners Fail

It’s true that the majority of new Shopify stores don’t make it to the end of their first year in business. But that’s not the fault of the technology. Shopify has created a great platform that gives you all the tools, themes and apps you need to succeed.

But Shopify can’t run your business for you. And there’s much more to operating a successful store than just buying inventory and opening for business. And this is where the majority of store owners fail.

How to Succeed with Shopify

To be a successful Shopify store owner, you also need to be a good marketer. This is not like selling on Amazon, where you have a market of ready buyers at your fingertips. Selling with Shopify can be very profitable, but you need to know how to bring customers to your store in a way that is profitable.

This means getting very good at online advertising, using platforms such as Facebook and native ads. It means building sales funnels that are optimized to:

  • Maximize optins
  • Reduce cart abandonment
  • Retarget effectively
  • Upsell and cross-sell
  • Increase average order value

Get good at these all-important factors and you will have a great shot at success. But if you ignore them, you are likely to end up as another failed store owner complaining that ‘it’s all a scam.’

No, It’s Not a Scam - It’s an Opportunity!

There will always be naysayers with a negative way of thinking, but you should not let them interfere with your decisions. Be positive and make the choices that are right for you.

Shopify is most certainly not a scam. In fact, it is one of the best business opportunities for regular people. Where else can you find a realistic chance to start a business with $1000 and turn that into a $100 million net worth?

If you want to succeed with Shopify, you will need to work hard, create a fantastic store and get really good at marketing. But if you are prepared to do that, there is no limit to the scale of this opportunity.
